U.S. Team Handball Foundation Pledges Up To $25K In Donor Matching Campaign For Women’s National Team Program

by USA Team Handball

In an effort to bolster the Women’s National Team program as it prepares for a tremendously important summer, the U.S. Team Handball Foundation has pledged to match donations, up to a cumulative total of $25K, in the run up to the 2021 North American and Caribbean Handball Confederation (NACHC) Women’s Championship and World Championship Qualifier.

“I am absolutely thrilled to collaborate with the Foundation in this way, as it not only provides our program with critical resources, but also allows individual donors to make a big impact with the matching support of the Foundation behind every dollar given up to the first $25k,” said USA Team Handball Chief Executive Officer Ryan Johnson.

“This is such a special moment for our sport, as we really feel that the stars are aligning for us. As we emerge from the pandemic, the opportunity to host a continental championship and world championship qualifier, coupled with a matching pledge from the Foundation, has the potential to change the trajectory of handball in the United States.”

Next month in Elgin, Ill., USA Team Handball will host a Women’s Continental Championship and World Championship Qualifier for the first time in 32 years, with the 2021 NACHC Women’s Championship. The winner of the event will punch their ticket to the 2021 IHF Women’s World Championship in Spain this December. More information on the event can be found here.

“As Trustees of the Foundation, we and our colleagues continue to support the sport in all aspects,” said Rick Hurst and Rod Oshita of the United States Team Handball Foundation. “This is a great opportunity and we’re honored to assist our Women’s National Team in such an exciting time.”

“This is a historic moment for our women’s program, and will be the first time any of the current athletes on Team USA will compete in a continental championship on home soil,” Johnson said. “I can’t think of a better way to re-energize the handball community as we emerge from the pandemic than by hosting an event of such international relevance. This is a tremendous opportunity to get our entire sport fired up for what we know is going to be a great 2021-2022 season, both domestically and internationally.”

Those interested in participating in the donor matching campaign can do so HERE, by selecting “Women’s National Team” in the dropdown list of donation options. The matching campaign is open now and will run through the end of the 2021 NACHC Women’s Championship, which is scheduled for Wednesday, August 25th.

About The United States Team Handball Foundation
The United States Team Handball Foundation, a 501c3 Corporation, was founded after the 1984 Olympic Games. The 1984 Games, in Los Angeles, made enough profit that each National Governing Body was granted monies to create a foundation. Dr. Peter Buehning created the USTHFoundation as a separate entity from the USTHFederation with those funds. The USTHFoundation was established to support and promote the sport of Team Handball in the United States. We are committed to remain an independent organization within the USOEndowment to support the National Team Handball Athletes, Team Handball Clubs, Referee development and general development of the sport in the United States. These funds continue to be invested with the USOlympic Endowment and have provided US team handball activities over $1.5 million over the life of the USTHF.
