Colorado Springs, CO — September 22, 2025 — USA Team Handball is proud to announce the advancement of two of its most successful junior men’s national team coaches into expanded leadership roles, recognizing their historic achievements and valuable experience as USA Team Handball enters the next phase of its Men’s Indoor National Team program development.

Danilo Rojevic, who has served as head coach of the Junior Men’s National Team, will take on the additional role of Director of Cadet, Youth, and Junior Men’s Programs. In this capacity, Rojevic will lead and mentor development staffs, coordinating with Men's Senior National Team Head Coach and MNT Program Director Mark Ortega to shape the pipeline and rising prospects of American men’s handball. He will continue as head coach of the Junior Men’s National Team, guiding athletes at the highest levels of competition again over the coming cycle.

Julio Sainz, who worked alongside Rojevic during the recent junior cycle, has been appointed Assistant Coach of the Men’s Senior National Team and Lead Technical Analyst. Sainz, who also serves on the Commission on Coaching and Methods for the North America & Caribbean Handball Confederation (NACHC), brings extensive expertise to the senior program in the expanded staff role, building on his extensive technical analysis contributions to the Men’s Senior National Team over the previous two cycles.

"Each of their broad experience, commitment, and proven success on the international stage make them invaluable assets as we align our efforts across all levels of the men’s program," Ortega said. "I am excited to have them and the quality they bring in these key roles, and I look forward to working together as we take the next steps in strengthening our competitiveness worldwide.”

Rojevic and Sainz, together alongside Team Leader Christa Ingram, most recently guided the U.S. Junior Men’s National Team to an unprecedented run of U.S. success, including:

  • Gold medal at the 2024 IHF Continental Trophy in Mexico City, Mexico
  • Gold medal at the 2025 IHF Intercontinental Trophy in Pristina, Kosovo
  • Bronze medal at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay — the first U.S. medal at a Pan American competition in over 20 years

“Their work and the group of Juniors they have led are a point of tremendous pride and progress, but these appointments are ultimately about the expanded value they will bring,” Michael King, Chief Executive Officer, said. “We have valuable and committed talent right here; extending their reach is the clear step to help bring our program further forward.”
