The United States earned its place at the World Championship by capturing the 2026 North American & Caribbean Handball Confederation Men’s Championship, completing an unbeaten run on home soil with a 32–18 victory over Greenland in the championship match. The result secured the United States’ return to the IHF World Championship following its 26th-place finish at the 2025 edition.
At the June World Championship draw, the United States was placed in Group G alongside reigning world champion Denmark, Slovenia and Angola.
Athlete selection will be conducted in accordance with USA Team Handball’s published Selection Procedures. The procedures provide for evaluation across observed performance, tactical and technical competencies, fitness and readiness, reliability, team cohesion, professionalism, international readiness, positional needs and other factors relevant to assembling a competitive national-team roster.
Athletes must satisfy all applicable eligibility requirements, including U.S. nationality and passport requirements, IHF eligibility rules, USA Team Handball membership and good-standing requirements, and applicable SafeSport, background-screening and anti-doping requirements. Athletes must also be at least 16 years old on the first day of competition.
Submitting availability does not guarantee selection.
The 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship will bring together 32 national teams across six German host cities. For the United States, the tournament represents another major international competition in the program’s progression toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, following continental championship gold in May and qualification for the 2027 Pan American Games in August.
