USATH Opens Call for Candidates — USATH General Membership Director Election

USA Team Handball is opening the call for candidates for the upcoming election of a General Membership Director to the USA Team Handball Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors provides policy, guidance, strategic direction, and oversight for USA Team Handball. The elected General Membership Director will serve as a fiduciary of the organization and will be expected to act in good faith, with care, and in the best interests of USA Team Handball.

The Nominating and Governance Committee (NGC) is responsible for reviewing nominations and certifying both the eligibility and suitability of candidates to stand for election, consistent with the USA Team Handball Bylaws, applicable policies, and the governance standards expected of Board service.

Term: Four years, beginning January 1, 2027, unless otherwise provided by the USA Team Handball Bylaws.

Candidate Eligibility

In accordance with the USA Team Handball Bylaws, candidates for General Membership Director must satisfy all applicable eligibility requirements.

To be eligible, a candidate must:

• be an individual eligible to run for the General Membership Director position under the Bylaws;
• be a member age eighteen (18) or older;
• be a registered USA Team Handball member for at least sixty (60) days prior to the date of the election;
• be a current USA Team Handball member in good standing at the time of nomination, during candidate verification, during the election period, and at the time of seating;
• not be a paid employee or consultant of USA Team Handball currently or within the last five (5) years;
• not violate the applicable term-limit provisions of the Bylaws;
• not violate the Bylaws with respect to organizations potentially competing with USA Team Handball;
• not be prohibited from Board service due to current or recent prior service on the Nominating and Governance Committee;
• not be subject to a SafeSport sanction or other restriction that would make the individual ineligible for Board service;
• not have a criminal conviction, court sanction, or other disciplinary, governance, ethics, bribery, corruption, or integrity-related matter that would make the individual ineligible under the Bylaws, USA Team Handball policy, or applicable law; and
• otherwise satisfy all applicable USA Team Handball governance, ethics, conflict of interest, SafeSport, and Board-service requirements and comply with USA Team Handball policies of membership.

Good Standing Requirement

Candidates must be USA Team Handball members in good standing at the time of nomination, during NGC review, throughout the election period, and at the time of seating.

Individuals who are suspended, banned, provisionally suspended, serving a period of ineligibility, subject to an active disciplinary restriction, or otherwise not in good standing are not eligible to stand for election.

Candidate Disclosures and NGC Review

All nominations will be reviewed by the Nominating and Governance Committee for eligibility under the USA Team Handball Bylaws.

As part of that review, nominees may be required to submit a candidate questionnaire, eligibility certification, conflict-of-interest disclosure, and any other information reasonably requested by the NGC.

The NGC may request relevant background information from any nominee, including information related to membership status, good standing, conflicts of interest, disciplinary matters, suspensions, sanctions, periods of ineligibility, SafeSport matters, criminal convictions, court sanctions, bribery or corruption matters, or other issues bearing on eligibility, integrity, governance, or Board service.

Disclosure of a matter does not necessarily mean a nominee is ineligible unless the Bylaws, USA Team Handball policy, applicable law, or the nature of the matter requires that result. However, failure to provide complete and accurate information may itself be considered by the NGC in determining eligibility.

Only candidates certified by the NGC as eligible will be placed on the ballot.

Voting Eligibility

To vote in the General Membership Director election, an individual must be a registered USA Team Handball member for at least sixty (60) days prior to the date of the election.

Because the election will close on August 23, 2026, eligible voters and eligible candidates must have been registered USA Team Handball members no later than June 24, 2026.

Honorary Members do not have voting privileges in constituency elections.

Voting Method

If more than two eligible candidates stand for election, the election will be conducted using ranked-choice voting, also known as instant-runoff voting. Each eligible voting member will rank the candidates in order of preference on a single ballot.

If no candidate receives a majority of first-preference votes, the candidate with the fewest first-preference votes will be eliminated, and ballots cast for that candidate will be redistributed to the next highest-ranked candidate on each ballot. This process will continue until a candidate receives a majority of votes still in play.

If there are two or fewer candidates standing for election, the candidate receiving the highest number of votes will be elected.

Service Expectations

Members of the Board of Directors are expected to act in the best interests of USA Team Handball, uphold the organization’s mission, comply with applicable governance and ethics obligations, and participate actively in Board service. Directors are expected to attend regularly scheduled, and possibly special or additional, Board meetings and contribute to the long-term development, oversight, and growth of the sport of team handball in the United States.

USA Team Handball encourages eligible members in good standing who are committed to advancing the sport, strengthening the federation, and supporting athletes, clubs, officials, coaches, and the broader handball community to consider standing for election.
