Steele, Darrin
- Qualified for the 2002 U.S. Olympic Team in 2-man with driver Brian Shimer
- Silver medallist in decathlon at 1994 Olympic Festival
- Bronze medallist in decathlon at 1993 World University Games
- NCAA All-American in track and field (1991)
- Darrin and his twin brother, Dan, carry on the tradition of track and field stars crossing over into bobsled
- The twin Steele brothers, both decathlon specialists, hold a record that may last a lifetime. "It's obscure; but combined, we've got the American brothers decathlon record," Steele said
- Steele attended Eastern Illinois University, where he earned All-American honors placing fifth in the 1991 NCAA decathlon. His brother, Dan, was also a track and field star at EIU
Steele is one of several fellow U.S. Olympic bobsled teammates that benefited from the Army's World Class Athlete Program, which is based at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Other members of the program include twin brother Dan Steele, Garrett Hines, Mike Kohn and Doug Sharp.
About competing in the same sports and events as twin brother Dan: "I can't get away from him. Whatever sport I'm in, he shows up. We have a pretty good relationship."
