Steele, Dan
- 2002 Olympics four-man bronze medalist with driver Brian Shimer
- Qualified for the 2002 Olympic Team, finishing first in 4-Man bobsled at Trials
- Member of the 1998 Olympic Team
- 2-time NCAA Division I All-American in track and field
- 400-meter hurdle NCAA champion in 1992
- Like many bobsled pushers, Steele comes from a track and field background. At the international level, Steele specialized in the decathlon. He placed fifth in the decathlon at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials
- The previous year he took eighth at the 1999 IAAF World Championships and second at the 1999 Pan-Am Games
- Steele's twin brother, Darrin, also hails from a track and field background and is also a push athlete for the U.S. Olympic Team
- He currently serves as a volunteer coach of track and field at the University of Oregon in Eugene where he has resided for years. "I also love the Eugene community, and the way it embraces its athletes," Steele said
- Steele was inducted into the Eastern Illinois University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. He graduated from EIU with a degree in sociology
Steele is one of several fellow U.S. Olympic bobsled teammates that benefited from the Army's World Class Athlete Program, which is based at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Other members of the program include twin brother Darrin Steele, Garrett Hines, Mike Kohn and Doug Sharp.
"It was absolutely surreal to be at the Winter Olympics. I never conceived of what it would be like to make it to that event. I had maybe dreamed of big things in other sports, like track and field, or basketball or football, when I was younger"
