Trinter accidentally became a professional sailor after moving to San Diego, where the America’s Cup was at the time. “They needed extra people on the America's Cup and people were asking me how much I charged for a day to come sailing. That's kind of when I learned you can make a living sailing,” he told the Lorain, Ohio Morning Journal. “Sailboat racing is like car racing. Just like there is always a car race going on every weekend, there's always a sailboat race that requires people.''
