Kinsolving, Isabelle
- Won 470 class at U.S. Olympic trials crewing for Katie McDowell
- Secured USA’s Olympic berth in the 470 class with eighth-place finish at the 2004 World Championships
- U.S. Sailing Team member 2001-2004
- Teamed up with Olympic partner Katie McDowell in 2000, moving from the skipper position to her new role as crew
- 2002 Yale University graduate in political science and economics, and a member of the women’s varsity ice hockey and club sailing teams
- Began rowing crew in high school at the Groton School, winning the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championship and finishing fifth at high school nationals
- Began sailing full time after graduating from Yale in 2002
Isabelle Kinsolving learned to sail while summering with her grandmother on Fishers Island, N.Y. She did not race sailboats seriously until attending college, but was a versatile athlete who played soccer and ice hockey during her early school years. She was one of only three girls to play on a co-ed ice hockey team in New York City.
On the new Olympic rule that does not allow a sailor’s worst race to be dropped from the points total: “The decision will put an emphasis on conservative sailing because avoiding OCSs and DSQs will be critical,” Kinsolving told Sailing Medallist.
