Kelly says standing in the dugout at the 2000 gold medal ceremony in Sydney is by far the best of her many career highlights even though, as a team alternate, she did not receive a medal. "It was great," she told Dateline Alabama in 2001. "I can't wait to win one of my own." She is now a full member of the 2004 Olympic squad that is favored to win gold in Athens.

Of the 2004 Olympic team’s pre-Athens tour in which it has dominated collegiate teams, she said, “We're trying to do the same things as if (the score is) 1-0 or 0-0. That's not to offend anybody, but we have to play it like it's a tight game because we'll be in tight games in Athens."
