Twelve Athletes Win National Titles At 2007 Disabled Water Ski National Championships

Twelve athletes won national titles at the 19th Hendricks Regional Health Disabled Water Ski National Championships, July 19-21, at Hawthorn Lake in Danville, Ind. The event featured some of the United States' top disabled water ski athletes competing for national titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.

Within each event, skiers who were partially (V2, V3) or totally blind (V1), paraplegics or quadriplegics (MP1, MP2, MP3), and arm and/or leg disabilities (with or without prosthesis) competed against athletes with the same disabilities.

The tournament included two rounds of competition and event winners were based on the two-round total, while the overall winners were based on overall points from the best scores of either round.

Craig Timm (Center City, Minn.) swept titles in the A division in overall (3,000 points), slalom (119 buoys), tricks (1,300 points) and jumping (best jump of 96 feet). Along with winning the national titles, Timm also broke the current world slalom record after rounding 3 buoys at 58 kph at 16.00 line length during Round 1. He broke the existing record of 1 buoy at 58 kph at 16.00 line length that he had shared with the Netherlands’ Toon van der Ploeg since 2005.

In A-W, Tammy Allard (Los Banos, Calif.) won titles in slalom (10-1/2 buoys) and tricks (690 points), while Lance Black (Indianapolis, Ind.) won the title in LP slalom (115-1/2 buoys).

In MP2, Joe Ray (Wilsonville, Ala.) swept titles in overall (3,000 points), slalom (159-1/4 buoys), tricks (1,480 points) and jumping (best jump of 42 feet). In MP2-W, Stephany Glassing (Marietta, Ga.) won the title in tricks (970 points) and Megan Lovelace (Quincy, Ill.) won the title in slalom (1/2 buoy).

In MP3, Chad Guzman (Gilbert, Ariz.) won titles in overall (2,599 points), slalom (206 buoys) and tricks (2,080 points), while Bill Bowness (Brandon, Miss.) won the title in jumping (best jump of 65 feet) and placed second in slalom, tricks and overall. In MP3-W, Raquel Roney (Urbana, Ill.) swept titles in overall (3,000 points), slalom (54 buoys), tricks (1,120 points) and jumping (best jump of 34 feet).

In V1, Mike Royal (Spring, Texas) won titles in slalom (10-1/2 buoys) and tricks (780 points). In V2/3, Craig Miller (Sarasota, Fla.) swept titles in overall (3,000 points), slalom (5-1/2 buoys), tricks (340 points) and jumping (best jump of 42). In V2/3-W, Katie Mawby (Grand Haven, Mich.) swept titles in overall (3,000 points), slalom (6 buoys), tricks (690 points) and jumping (best jump of 48 feet).

Great Britain's Jacky Stimpson also tied her tricks world records in MP2-W after scoring 780 points in tricks in Round 1.
