Boudia/Finchum close out ATT USA Diving Grand Prix with synchro silver

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis, Ind.) claimed the silver medal in men’s synchronized 10-meter to close out the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix Sunday. The U.S. finished the four-day meet with four silvers and one bronze medal.
Boudia and Finchum scored 437.52 points to finish just behind the Australian duo of Matthew Helm and Robert Newberry, who won with 443.04 points. China’s Yang Liguang and Hu Jia were third at 422.88. Sean Moore (Englewood, Colo.) and Wes Wieser (Chesterfield, Mo.) finished fifth with 341.67 points.
Australia also claimed the top spot individually on 10-meter as Matthew Mitcham dominated the contest with 534.45 points. He earned at least one 9.0 mark on each of six dives and scored more than 100 points on two dives. His reverse 3 ½ tuck earned four 10s. Helm finished second at 502.70, and Germany’s Sascha Klein scored 467.90 for third. Boudia just missed the podium with 465.20 points on a day when he upped his degree of difficulty by adding a front 4 ½ into his dive list for the first time since 2006. Finchum was fifth at 463.35.
Yulia Pakhalina of Russia won her second gold of the week by narrowly capturing the women’s 3-meter title with 357.90, just edging out China’s He Zi, who finished with 357.75 points. Italy’s Tania Cagnotto took third at 320.50, with Allison Brennan (Huntington Beach, Calif.) finishing fourth at 314.40. Chelsea Davis (Columbus, Ohio) scored 306.55 points for sixth.
In addition to the silver from Boudia and Finchum on Sunday, the U.S. also got silver medals from Jevon Tarantino (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Chris Colwill (Brandon, Fla.) on men’s 3-meter synchro, Laura Wilkinson (Spring, Texas) on women’s 10-meter and Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) on men’s 3-meter. Wilkinson also paired with Jessica Livingston (The Woodlands, Texas) for a bronze in women’s synchronized 3-meter.
