Yarrison (Springfield, Va.) won the women’s 1-meter title with 287.10 points to capture her first individual national title.

“I’m really excited to win something by myself. It’s been awhile since I’ve done that,” said Yarrison, a University of Texas diver who won a national title in 3-meter synchro last year. “In terms of winning at home, this is the first time my dad’s seen me dive in a long time. My mom’s been around all week helping at the meet, and there are a lot of people here who have supported me. This is a comfortable place for me to dive.”

Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill./Indiana University) won the silver medal with 280.45 points, and another local athlete, Amanda Miller (Centreville, Va./Purdue University) took the bronze with 274.55 points. All three will dive again Friday in the women’s 3-meter semifinals, which start at 3 p.m.

Colwill (Brandon, Fla.), who also won 1-meter national titles in 2004 and 2006, scored 438.15 points in a dominating men’s 1-meter win. Silver medalist Terrence Horner (Orlando, Fla./Florida State) took scored 379.05 points and Jason Coben (Newtown Square, Pa./Fort Lauderdale Dive Team) was third with 369.20 points.

“I thought I did pretty good. I’m happy with my performance. I thought I dove OK, but after I hit my fourth dive, that really boosted my confidence,” Colwill said.

The Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships run through Sunday at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center.
