COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has announced today the promotions of Glen Werner Roseboom and Tracy Lamb to directors of the Colorado Springs and Chula Vista Olympic Training Centers, respectively.
Roseboom and Lamb were previously associate directors of the U.S. Olympic Training Centers – Roseboom served at Colorado Springs and Lamb in Lake Placid, N.Y.
“We are elevating two outstanding individuals to run our Colorado Springs and Chula Vista Olympic Training Centers”, said Jim Scherr, Chief Executive Officer of the USOC. ”Both have proven their abilities to manage the needs of the athletes at our training centers and will be leaders as directors.”
“Glen and Tracy have made great contributions at two of our Olympic Training Centers”, said Mike English, USOC Managing Director of Athlete Facilities & Services. “They bring a wealth of passion to this job and to our athletes.”
Roseboom has been affiliated with the Colorado Springs center since 1997 and oversaw seven departments as Associate Director: Aquatics, Dining, Main Services, Operations, Transportation, Venues and Vehicle Services. She began her career with the USOC as a Resident Life Coordinator in 1997. In 1998, she became the Central Scheduling Coordinator and was named Operations Manager in 1999. In 2005 she was named Associate Director where she supervised a staff of 66.
A board member and Team Captain of the Pikes Peak Women’s Hockey Foundation, Roseboom was also Assistant Coach for the Colorado College Women’s Basketball program from 1998-2003. She was a 1993 Division III basketball Final Four participant for the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., and a two-time varsity team captain. She was elected the first woman president of a 100-year-old college rowing club and is a competitive ice hockey player in the state women’s association in Colorado.
Roseboom received her bachelor of arts degree in social work from the College of St. Benedict in 1993 and a masters of education, sport management, from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., in 1998. She married fellow ice hockey player Chris Roseboom in 2004 in Sertich Ice Arena in Colorado Springs and the couple has a daughter, Samantha Gail.
“This is a dream to me,” said Roseboom, “but one that I have prepared for and I’m ready to begin this fascinating experience. Starting out as a coordinator in the OTC resident hall, I’ve seen this center from the ground up. There is no greater time than now to work for the USOC, especially as we lead into the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. This is challenging, and with the talented staff we have in Colorado Springs, I feel we’re up to that challenge.”
Lamb joined the USOC as Operations Manager in 1992 and was promoted to Associate Director in 2004. At the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center, he worked with the various National Governing Bodies on their sports programs, and he coordinated the efforts of the community and state towards supporting these programs and events. He coordinated all media and marketing for the center as well as managed the center’s athlete services. Additionally, Lamb coordinated transportation for the USOC at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, and at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada.
Lamb is from a Lake Placid Family with a strong background in the Nordic ski world. His father, Vernon, was a member of the 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Organizing Committee and an international ski jumping judge. Vernon was later inducted into the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame. Lamb’s older brother, Joe, was a Nordic Combined Olympian in 1972 and presently serves on several committees for Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS), the international governing body of the sport of skiing.
Lamb is a 1980 graduate of Temple University and was an active biathlete who narrowly missed making the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team. He became the national coach in the sport in 1985 and helped the U.S. win its first international medal in biathlon in 1987 when Josh Thompson won a silver medal at the World Championships.
In 1988, Lamb served as the Olympic coach for the U.S. Olympic Biathlon Team for the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After the Games in Calgary, he joined the Canadian Biathlon Association and was head coach from 1989 to 1991, helping Canada win its first medals ever in the sport. In 1992, Lamb joined the USOC as operations manager at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center.
Lamb is still active in his sport, serving as an International Technical Delegate for the International Biathlon Union. In 1999, 2001 and 2004, he organized and served as Chief of Competition of the Biathlon World Cup events hosted in Lake Placid, N.Y. In 2002 at the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, he served as Chief of Stadium at the Soldier Hollow venue. Lamb also served as the Team Leader for the U.S. Olympic Biathlon Team at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
Lamb has served the community of Lake Placid as Vice President of the School Board, he works as a member of the Lake Placid/North Elba Historical Society, is a member of the Adirondack Medical Wellness Advisory Board, and he is on the Olympic Regional Development Authority Community Advisory Panel. In 1983, Lamb was Managing Director of the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and was responsible for a $3 million Fine Arts Complex, art school, theater and Fine Arts Library.
He and his wife Alicia have two children: Kaleigh and Colden.
“This is an opportunity to work with a world-class training center in Chula Vista, “ Lamb said of his move from Lake Placid, “It is a great opportunity to learn and work at another U.S. Olympic Training Center site with different team members to make sure our athletes have everything they need to meet their goals and dreams.”
