2007 U.S. World Championships Team Secondary Qualifier Gives Early Look at U.S. Team Rankings Entering Crucial Olympic Qualifying Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2007 U.S. World Championships Team Secondary Qualifying event held in Columbus Ohio provided an early glimpse of how the U.S. Team stacks up ranking wise as the athletes of USA Weightlifting enter the crucial Olympic qualifying year.
As expected, two-time U.S. Olympian (2000 and 2004) and 2000 Olympic bronze medalist, Cheryl Haworth (Savannah, Ga./Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Casey Burgener (Bonsall, Calif./Colorado Springs, Colo.) sit atop the ranking list, just as they finished the 2006 season.
Haworth and Burgener enter will look to lead Team USA through the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (July 13-29) and into the 2007 World Weightlifting Championships in Chang Mai, Thailand (September 11-25), the final 2008 Olympic Games Qualifying event.
The primary qualifying event for the 2007 U.S. World Championships Weightlifting Team will be the 2007 USA Weightlifting National Championships, which will be held May 11-13 in Schaumburg, Ill. The secondary qualifier in Columbus allowed athletes training for the World Championships Team to post a mark so that they have a posted score, just in case something (such as an injury) prevents them from competing in the National Championships.
