Lake City Skiers Win Second Consecutive Division 2 Show Ski National Title

WARSAW, Ind. - The host Lake City Skiers (Warsaw, Ind.) won the overall team title at the seventh annual Malibu Division 2 Show Ski National Championships on Sunday at Hidden Lake. The two-day event featured nearly 400 participants.

Lake City tallied 1,676.37 points to win the Division 2 national title for the second consecutive year. Lake City won top awards for showmanship, sound crew, high individual club act, jumping and barefooting.

“Congratulations to the Lake City Skiers on winning their second consecutive Division 2 show ski national title,” said Jim Grew, president of USA Water Ski. “As event hosts and Division 2 national champions, the Lake City Skiers put on a great show in every respect.”

The Browns Lake Aquaducks (Burlington, Wis.), which won top awards for pyramid, ballet, overall show, pickup boat crews, towboat driving and dock and equipment personnel, finished runner-up with 1,575.57 points, and the Silver Lake Ski Club (Fenton, Mich.) finished third with 1,264.13 points. The Hartwick Huskies (Delhi, Iowa) placed fourth with 1,228.67 points and the Carolina Show Ski Team (Tega Cay, S.C.) rounded out the field with 997.74 points.

In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.

Lake City also won the team jumping competition in the individual events on Saturday, scoring 60.00 points. Brittany Walthers (Clifton Park, N.Y.) won the swivel event with 15.60 points, and Laura Krupla (Muskego, Wis.) and Matt Farra (Merton, Wis.) won doubles, scoring 16.10 points.
