Four U.S. Athletes Win Titles At Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships

U.S. water ski athlete Adam Pickos (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) and Canada's Whitney McClintock each set respective Junior U.S. Open records Sunday at the seventh annual MasterCraft Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, June 23-24, at the Cory Pickos' Water Ski & Wakeboard School in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.
The event, which was a two-round world record capability water ski competition, featured Men and Women (ages 17 to 21) and Boys and Girls (ages 16 and under) divisions. Athletes competed for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.
Fifteen-year-old Pickos, son of legendary tricks skier Cory Pickos, won his fourth consecutive Junior U.S. Open Boys' tricks title, tallying 9,290 points. The point-total shattered the event record of 8,730 points set by Chile's Felipe Miranda at the 2003 Junior U.S. Open.
McClintock won Women's slalom (4 buoys at 38 feet off), tricks (7,870 points), jumping (151 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points) titles. Her tricks score eclipsed the event record of 7,560 points set by U.S. athlete Regina Jaquess at the 2006 Junior U.S. Open. U.S. athlete Danyelle Bennett (Zachary, La.) finished runner-up in Women's slalom (2-1/2 buoys at 38 feet off) and tricks (7,800 points).
U.S. athletes Caroline Hensley (Hixson, Tenn.), Danielle Shipe (Orlando, Fla.) and Zack Worden (Deltona, Fla.) also won titles. Hensley won Girls' tricks (6,620 points), jumping (143 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points); Shipe won Girls' slalom (2 buoys at 38 feet); and Worden won Boys' slalom (2-1/2 buoys at 38 feet off), jumping (166 feet) and overall (2,700.8 points).
Great Britain's Stephen Critchley won Men's tricks (7,670 points), jumping (195 feet) and overall (2,836.1 points), and Mexico's Bernardo Graf won Men's slalom (3 buoys at 38 feet off).
