U.S. Pan American Games Water Ski Team Selected Following U.S. Team Trials

USA Water Ski has announced the selection of the 2007 U.S. Pan American Games Water Ski Team following the conclusion of the 2007 U.S. Water Ski Team Trials, June 8-10, in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. The 2007 U.S. Pan American Games Team will compete in the 2007 Pan American Games, July 21-24, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Athletes selected to the 2007 U.S. Pan American Games Team were: Regina Jaquess (Suwanee, Ga.), Mandy Nightingale (Sapulpa, Okla.), Cory Pickos (Orlando, Fla.) and Jonathan Travers (Groveland, Fla.). Selected to the pool of alternates were: Scot Ellis (Auburndale, Fla.), Danyelle Bennett (Zachary, La.), Russell Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.) and Rhoni Barton-Bischoff (Orlando, Fla.). The American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee (IAC) selected the team based on performances at the three-round team trials. The American Water Ski Association is a sport discipline of USA Water Ski.

Jaquess competed as a member of the U.S. Team at the 2003 Pan American Games in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where she won three of the United States' Pan Am Games-high eight medals. Nightingale, Pickos and Travers will be competing in their first Pan American Games. Mike Meek (Albany, Ohio) is the coach of the U.S. Team and Frank Harrison (Rancho Mirage, Calif.) is the team leader.

"The United States will be well-represented at the 2007 Pan American Games," said Harrison, who also serves as the chairman of the IAC. "The athletes selected to the U.S. Pan American Games Water Ski Team are all capable of bringing home gold medals in their respective events."

USA Water Ski was formed in 1939 as a non-profit organization promoting water skiing in the United States. USA Water Ski is affiliated with the International Water Ski Federation (world governing body) and is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and Pan-American Sports Organization as the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States. With more than 30,000 members, USA Water Ski is the largest water ski federation in the world.
