USA Water Ski has announced that the seventh annual MasterCraft Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, a two-round world record capability water ski competition, will be held at Cory Pickos' Water Ski & Wakeboard School, June 23-24, in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. The event will feature Junior Men and Junior Women divisions (ages 17 to 21), in addition to the Boys and Girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Nearly 100 athletes are expected to compete for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.
"We are pleased to announce that the MasterCraft Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships will be returning for the third time to Cory Pickos' prestigious multi-lake facility," said Andy Jugan, executive director of USA Water Ski. "We expect the highest level of competition from the world's top junior water ski athletes."
At the 2006 Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, seven U.S. water ski athletes won titles, including Regina Jaquess, who swept titles in Junior Women's slalom, tricks, jumping and overall for the second consecutive year. U.S. athletes also swept all of the titles in the Boys' competition: Storm Selsor won his second consecutive Junior U.S. Open overall title; Adam Pickos won his third consecutive Junior U.S. Open Boys' tricks title; Zack Worden won his first major international tournament title of his career in jumping; and Brooks Wilson rounded out the division sweep for the Americans winning the slalom title, his first major international tournament victory. In Junior Men's action, Kyle Nightingale won his third consecutive Junior U.S. Open tricks title, and Jonathan Travers won the slalom title in dramatic fashion.
