U.S. BOBSLED AND SKELETON ATHLETE ZACH LUND ACCEPTS PUBLIC WARNING FOR DOPING VIOLATION
// U.S. Olympic Committee
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 23, 2006) The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced today that Zach Lund of Salt Lake City, Utah, an athlete in the sport of skeleton, has accepted a public warning for a first doping offense after testing positive for finasteride at the World Cup in Calgary, Canada on November 10, 2005.
Finasteride is classified as a masking agent under the rules of the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (“FIBT”), the international federation for the sport of skeleton.
The FIBT who collected the sample referred the case to the US Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (USBSF), who in turn referred it to USADA for handling on January 9, 2006.
As a result of the doping violation, in addition to the public warning, Lund has been disqualified from his second place finish at the World Cup. USBSF will carry out the sanction.
USADA is responsible for managing the testing and results management process for athletes in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. USADA is equally dedicated to preserving the integrity of sport through research initiatives and educational programs.
